AXXIS Beach received the Blue Flag certification again this year and remains in the select league of the few such places on the Romanian coast. It is one of the most important international recognitions for a beach regarding the quality of services, safety and environmental standards.
In our country, in 2026 there are only five Blue Flag beaches, and a sixth has entered the pilot program.
The Blue Flag certification is not granted for an unlimited period. It must be reconfirmed every year, and beach operators must demonstrate that they constantly comply with the standards imposed at international level. This is also the reason why the blue flag is considered one of the most credible landmarks for tourists looking for clean, safe and well-managed destinations.
AXXIS Beach was in the pilot program in 2023. Since then, it has obtained the certification every year.
What can you find on the Blue Flag AXXIS Beach?
At AXXIS Beach, this distinction is reflected in the experience offered to guests. The beach offers tourists premium sun loungers, a beach bar area, a children’s playground, changing cabins, toilets and spaces designed for relaxation.
There is also a separate toilet for the little ones, with a Mother and Child space.
The beach also has facilities for people with disabilities.
Last but not least, the price of the sun lounger or canopy also includes a towel.
Blue Flag Program, brief history
For many tourists, the presence of the Blue Flag has become an important criterion in choosing a holiday destination and, implicitly, beaches.
The Blue Flag program was launched in France in 1985. At that time, the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) initiated a unique project to demonstrate that pollution knows no borders. A thousand students wrote letters, sealed them in bottles and released them into the Atlantic Ocean to track how ocean currents can transport pollution around the world.
The project’s emblem – a blue flag with a white circle and three waves – would soon become the symbol of a much broader mission: protecting the coastal and marine environment.
As concerns about marine pollution grew, the FEE developed a set of environmental criteria for beaches and tourist ports, focusing on water quality, safety and environmental education. Recognizing the potential of the Blue Flag program as a tool for implementing environmental policies, the European Union and FEE collaborated to create a voluntary certification system, aligned with the provisions of the European Bathing Water Quality Directive. In 1987, the first beaches and tourist ports were awarded the Blue Flag in ten European countries.
Gradually, the initiative was extended to dozens of countries around the world.
In 2026, Bulgaria received the Blue Flag distinction for 32 beaches. There are 624 certified beaches and coastal areas in Greece. The leader in this regard is Spain, however, with a record number of 794 beaches, tourist ports and boats. The country has approximately 15% of the world’s Blue Flag beaches and ports. The recertification of the Blue Flag, for the fourth year in a row, confirms once again AXXIS Beach’s commitment to quality, safety and respect for the environment.
